i need to get a petition signed to repeat a course for a second time. i pretty much failed the first time, and the second time got a C-, but i need to take it again since some of my upper divs required for my major have a prereq of at least a C in that class. my grades weren't so great before, but have been improving (mostly B's now). any tips on what i should say to persuade the adivsers to let me take the class for a third time?

1:23 pm - Recommendation letters
|

loudasthesun
|
I graduated in June 2007, but I need a letter of recommendation from a professor for a school I'm applying to now. It'd be easier if I was still a student at UCSC, but considering I haven't seen the professor in 2 years makes this a little weird. Probably isn't too uncommon a situation though, so figured I'd ask. Any tips and advice on how to approach this would be helpful.

Taught by K. Hester. Is the class/professor as bad as everyone says? It's the only class that fits well in my schedule next year, but I've heard terrible things about it. Thoughts?

I'm looking to transfer to UCSC next winter semester and i was wondering if anyone could give me some first hand insiders guides to the film school there. Whats good, whats bad, what equipment are they using? How prepared does this school get you for working inside the industry (but not specifically hollywood)
I'm currently going to school in detroit and most of the professors here don't have very much production experience. how knowledgable are the professors at UCSC? I don't really know what other specifics i might add, but i'd just like to hear some first hand testimonials from people in the film production major.

I will be a fall transfer student majoring in history and I was wondering if there was a summer reading list or other books that might be recommended. I know on the history web page that the following is given.
Beginning-Intermediate Reading E.H. Carr, What is History? Marc Bloch, The Historian's Craft R.G. Collingwood, The Idea of History
Advanced Reading Keith Jenkins, Re-Thinking History Robert Berkhofer, Beyond the Great Story Paul Veyne, Writing History
Much Appreciated

In a flurry of reminiscing, I found the posts for the first ever game night (here for the morbidly curious).
I guess five years is enough time to elapse and warrant a re-post, so...
Hey, you shiny game playing people! There's a game night in Santa Cruz. It's been running for around five years. Games played tend to be card games that don't use a standard deck (e.g. Chez Geek, Munchkin, Aquarius, Fluxx, Guillotine...) and the occasional board game (e.g. Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Kill/Save Dr. Lucky...)
A random number of people come. It has been as few as three people. It has been as many as thirty. It tends to be around 10 people. All sorts of people show -- from UCSC, from over the hill, from Salinas.
It's goes from 8:30p until whenever (as early as midnight, as late as 6 in the morning) on every Tuesday night at the Denny's on Ocean Street -- it's right off the southern end of the 17. Looking for a ride? There's plenty of people around who live in various places that just might be willing to give you one!
(For example, I've been driving over the hill and back from Fremont for the last 3 years)
Obligatory Facebook group
Wander in and it's likely you'll spot us. If not for the group of people being way too loud, then for the mysterious Escher ball.
It's fairly likely that we won't bite unless you ask politely. All bets are off with respect to hugs though.

Im taking ART 23 - 01 Intermedia 1 with Edith Crichton next quarter. Its a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday class that goes from 2pm to 4:45pm. To be honest, I don't really know what it's going to be about.
Does anyone know if this is a good class? What kind of work do you do in this class? Is it very difficult? What does it generally focus on? Any advice for this class?
